Black soft cotton frangipani dress features a v-neckline, three-quarter-length sleeves, and voluminous tiered skirt with all-over floral hand embroidery.
This beautiful Frangipani dress is made from organic cotton traditionally handwoven and hand-loomed in one of the last remaining traditional mills in Tamil Nadu, South India.
The embroidery on this Fragipani dress is done by Lambadi women in Sittilingi Valley. Two Lambadi women who were taught this skill by their grandmothers, taught a few other women this craft and formed an organisation called Porgai, which in Lambadi dialect means 'pride'. Muzungu Sisters continues to value and champion hand embroidery, which is sadly a diminishing art due to the increased popularity of machine embroidery.
The organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment, with systems in place to replenish and sustain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilisers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Our organic cotton is GMO free; cotton crops are not treated with pesticides, insecticides, herbicides.
Conventionally grown cotton uses more insecticides than any other crop in the world. These -pesticides and insecticides used in cotton production contaminate the soil we use to grow crops, the air we breathe and the water we drink. The deaths of animals exposed to these contaminants is counted in the millions every year. The damage caused to us and the environment by growing non-organic cotton is enormous and is a real threat to us and our planet.
