White cotton blouse with multicolour cotton hand-embroidery, smocked neckline with tie collar, and crocheted sleeve hem detail.
This blouse is hand-embroidered by a very talented third generation embroiderer in the countryside, just outside of Budapest. She has won numerous awards for her skilled embroidery. Each garment takes up to four days to complete.
The traditional embroidery, known as 'Matyó embroidery', is a free-hand embroidery technique in which women sketched and embroidered various floral motifs of their gardens into their clothing. Whilst the Matyo embroidery was at its height in 1800s, it has rapidly diminished by the 20th century. Matyó embroidery has been included on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
Muzungu Sisters champion and value handcraft, and recognise the importance of preserving cultural and traditional art forms by supporting artisans whose skills are rare and hard to come across nowadays.
