Linen blouse in white features multicolour traditional Hungarian hand-embroidered floral motifs throughout the bodice and ruffles on the shoulders and sleeves.
This blouse is hand-embroidered by a very talented third generation embroiderer in the countryside, just outside of Budapest.
The traditional embroidery, known as 'Maytó embroidery', is a free-hand embroidery technique in which women sketched and embroidered various floral motifs of their gardens into their clothing. Whilst the Matyo embroidery was at its height in 1800s, it has rapidly diminished by the 20th century. Matyó embroidery has been included on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
Muzungu Sisters champion and value handcraft, and recognise the importance of preserving cultural and traditional art forms by supporting artisans whose skills are hard to come across today.
