Artisans from Tamil Nadu, South India
This product is made by artisans in India. Muzungu Sisters continues to value and champion hand-embroidery, which is sadly a dying art due to the increase in popularity of machine-embroidery. The embroidery on these dresses is done entirely by hand, by talented women embroiderers in Lucknow and Mumbai, India.
The organic cotton used for this garment is traditionally handwoven, and hand-loomed in one of the last remaining traditional mills of its kind in Tamil Nadu, South India, resurrecting ancient hand looming techniques unique to this region and empowering weavers to continue imparting their skills. By working with weavers in the rural village of Chennimalai, we are able to support their livelihoods in this community.
Muzungu Sisters only uses natural sustainable, biodegradable materials that leave a minimal trace on our environment. Just as our pieces are designed to be kept for years to come, we believe in a conscious, conservative approach to consumption.
